I don't know what you'd call it in english, but my village has this parish association that takes care of the local history in the area, hosting most events going on here etc, and for ages I've been wanting to help out with their digital photo archive. The stuff they post on their FB page is impossible to sort through, and the actual online archive is very barren and without any decent search function...
And I just got phone call informing me that I'll be handed responsibility for it!!! They were in need of help for several tasks including this one and so I'll be receiving all the digital files they have, meet with them to look over the physical stuff, and also get free reign over their online archive!!! No time limit, something I can do despite being unable to leave the house, AND I get to help to make it easier for everyone here to access the sheer amount of material that's been preserved!!!!! I'm so excited I almost don't know what to do with myself LOL
#this association has one of the largest archives of documented parish history in the entire country#and i cant summarize the sheer amount of activities they host in the tags#and im so happy to finally have something even i could help with now despite my limited physical ability#and because my family is also one of the older ones here spanning centuries#my parents have a LOT of knowledge that will help me in organizing the digital archive too#so yeah all that to say im STOKED#really needed this boost after the mess that was all of last year#silvi talks

this is me being very brave and not correcting inaccuracies about the vatican library after seeing a post that mentions it, even though working with vatican manuscript collections and their digital surrogates is my literal job
(nb I don't work for the church in any sort of direct fashion, we're a medieval and early modern studies research center, please do not drag me through the streets, at least for that reason)
#like this is not to minimize the many crimes of the church#or indeed the accessibility issues of rare book and manuscript libraries#but it's not actually locked away and kept secret#it's all being digitized rn#large chunks of it have existed on microfilm and have been hosted in the US since the 1950s#like the wealth of the church is a separate issue but#the access issues for the libraries are not distinctly different from those of secular institutions#also the 'vatican secret archive' is not what people think it is#it's basically just documents related to the private business of popes#it's not called that anymore and it's not particularly secret

I can somewhat understand people being put off by digital archiving but physical archiving is SO cool... you get to wear gloves and touch of materials and discern handwriting. any text that's old enough gets me excited tbh. also helps that I went to a tour at a museum archive and found a letter written by my poet granduncle.
honestly I'd love both options! Of course I have a sweet post for physical archiving, that's what I'd love most, but digital media is quite important to preserve as well so I can't not also deeply respect that profession
#[.asks]#cloudbends#in an ideal world I work with old cartography and documents... but I wouldn't say no to digital archiving at all

it is really fascinating the diy split between the "fuck digital" 90s crowd ala albini versus the later napster/makeoutclub/myspace progression and how both were incredibly native about their own personal ethics of punk while also like. fostering their own underground communities outside traditional commercial industry
#like im a product of digital i always think the analog crowd is a little stupid not seeing the possibilities in digital sharing#but also. think of all the bands lost to myspace. in a genre defined by documenting and archiving theres a whole gen of musicians#like. lost to the ether of myspace. its crazy#not to mention the way digital has forever changed our relationality to music (like it or not we have not dealt with the fact the average#person thinks music should be free which creates lasting ripple effects into the streaming era)#and vinyl making a comback over cds. analog over digital physicality. if the issue is ownership why are we retreating to the more expensive#and unweildly and difficult to access medium.... were the oldheads right about analog is it more 'real'#i dont know! sorry im reading about book about recorded music and having a normal one#my posts

Streamline Your Business Operations with PDQ Docs: Centralized Document Management Software
In today’s business environment, managing documents efficiently is crucial for smooth operations. With an increasing volume of digital content, organizations need a robust solution to ensure documents are easily accessible, well-organized, and secure. Centralized document management software like PDQ Docs offers an effective way to address these challenges, providing businesses with a unified platform to manage their documents with ease. By centralizing document storage, retrieval, and collaboration, businesses can streamline operations, improve productivity, and ensure greater security.
What is Centralized Document Management Software?
Centralized document management software refers to a system that consolidates all digital documents and files into one secure, accessible platform. Rather than storing documents in disparate systems or physical locations, businesses can centralize their files into one organized, easy-to-manage repository. With this system, users can access, edit, share, and collaborate on documents from a single interface, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the organization. PDQ Docs is a leading example of centralized document management software that helps businesses organize their documents effectively while offering easy access and improved workflow.

How PDQ Docs Improves Document Management
PDQ Docs simplifies document storage and retrieval by offering a central location where all files are organized and indexed. One of the primary advantages of centralized document management is the ability to search for and retrieve documents quickly. With PDQ Docs, businesses can tag documents with keywords, categories, and metadata, ensuring that files can be located in just a few clicks. Whether it’s a contract, report, or an internal memo, finding documents becomes an efficient process, eliminating the frustration of searching through multiple folders or systems.
Security and Compliance with PDQ Docs
Another significant benefit of centralized document management software is the enhanced security it provides. With PDQ Docs, sensitive information is securely stored in a centralized, encrypted system. Access controls can be set to ensure that only authorized personnel can view or edit specific documents, minimizing the risk of data breaches. This is particularly important for businesses in regulated industries, such as healthcare and finance, where compliance with legal requirements and data protection regulations is paramount.
Why Choose PDQ Docs for Centralized Document Management?
When looking for centralized document management software, PDQ Docs stands out due to its user-friendly interface and powerful features. The software is designed to be intuitive, making it easy for businesses to implement without requiring extensive training. Whether you are a small business or a large corporation, PDQ Docs offers scalable solutions that can grow with your organization’s needs.
Conclusion
Centralized document management software is essential for businesses looking to improve efficiency, collaboration, and security. With PDQ Docs, you can streamline document storage and retrieval, enhance team collaboration, and ensure the security of sensitive information. By centralizing your documents, you’ll have better control over your files, ensuring that your team can access the right documents when needed. Whether you are looking to improve internal workflows or ensure regulatory compliance, PDQ Docs provides a comprehensive solution that will help your business operate more effectively.

[ID: A digital illustration of Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood from The Magnus Archives. They're in the archives' document storage room, Martin is stood facing the door with his head turned to look at Jon, who is sat on the floor. Jon has one leg outstretched with a tear in the fabric of his trousers and a slightly bloody corkscrew on the floor next to him on the right and a tape recorder on the floor to the left. He is looking up at Martin with a slightly suspicious expression and saying "Martin you're not... uh... You didn't die here, did you?". A few small silver worms are crawling on the glass on the other side of the door's window. End description.]

The preservation of transgender history is essential to ensuring that the stories and experiences of trans people are not forgotten. The Digital Transgender Archive (DTA) has taken on the vital task of gathering and protecting this history, bringing together documents, images, and materials that reflect the rich and diverse experiences of transgender people across time and place.
By making these resources accessible, the DTA facilitates explorations of the often-hidden or erased narratives of trans communities. From personal stories to institutional records, these materials provide a window into the challenges and triumphs faced by trans individuals, while also celebrating the resilience and diversity of these communities.
Preserving this history is also about ensuring that future generations can learn, understand, and be inspired by the stories of those who came before them.
Explore more about how these efforts are safeguarding trans history, and why it matters, on JSTOR Daily.
